In case it comes up, or someone else sees this...
Artificial sweeteners are as bad as sugar. Your body responds to the taste of sweet on your tongue, not sugar coming through your intestines.

So, artificial sweeteners can be worse for diabetes because they trigger insulin release but without the sugar. Your body gets confused and becomes insulin resistant.
Sucking on sweet drinks all day is also bad because it doesn't give your body a break to clear the insulin and reset the receptors.

Most fruit have fructose which raises their carbs.

Celery, mushrooms, tomatoes (especially Roma), cauliflower, cucumber and courgette are very low in calories.

If you're making blended soups or cream sauces, blended boiled cauliflower works fantastically as a thickening agent and has FAR less calories than potato.

Lightly frying chopped cabbage in REAL butter and a dash of white pepper makes a perfect side-dish too.

I use grated carrot to thicken and sweeten tomato sauces, but only sparingly because 100g of boiled carrot has about 6 g carbs. Not huge but significant.

Imho the healthiest things to eat, via intermittent or short term fasting, are:

1. 100% Meat, unpreserved (no chemical bs added, including "broth" or "brine" etc)

2. 100% Pork from a local butcher, or frozen with ingredients listed only as 100% pork and no preservatives (pork products are notoriously filled with bs goy slop chemicals)

3. 100% Fish, unpreserved

4. block cheese

5. fresh organic greens (organic isn't perfect, still has chemicals, just less of them and non-GMO)

6. lowest carb organic "others" like pole beans, zucchini, cauliflower, etc.

7. low or zero net carb tortillas, only for convenience and variety (since they can easily be used for tacos, burgers, and wraps) but beware that most low carb tortillas have plenty of goy slop ingredients.

Personally, while keto can work very well for many people, especially those who refuse to be at least moderately active, I’d just recommend lower carb, and avoiding processed shit with lots of sugar. As long as your carbs are under 100, aren’t processed, and aren’t made up of mostly sugar, you shouldn’t have any issues. If you’re completely sedentary though, you’d likely have to keep your carbs between 30-50 at most. I love red beans, black eyes peas with cabbage, and black beans as a carb up healthy mean occasionally. If you’re lifting heavy regularly, and like being active outdoors regularly also, you’ll probably find STRICT keto to be a hindrance. Of course, YMMV.

Most fruit has sugar but berries and cantaloupe are good fruits. Lettuce, cabbage are good veggies. There are more I can’t think of now, just look up low glycemic veggies and it will be the same for the most part.

Carrots, peas, greens. stuff like that is fine, but remember moderation. Potatoes are super high carb. Avocados were a staple item for me.

However, the key point is that it depends. You need first to determine how many carbs you are eating in a day. Keto is technically anything under 50g of carbs, most people stick between 30-50g. I had most success staying around 20g of carbs.

From there you need to track your food so you can see how many carbs you are at. If your goal is like 50g of carbs, and you have room to eat blueberries, strawberries, a bit of apple, etc go for it.

Over time you will figure out what works for you and what doesn't.

Its an extremely easy diet to follow, and once you have done it for a few months you will get a good sense of what you can eat and what will kick you out of it. Also it becomes more forgiving the longer you stay in it.

This may or may not help, but to get the conversation started;
Vegetable is a culinary term and is very ambiguous. Fruit can be both culinary or scientific. The scientific definition refers to flesh surrounding the seeds.
As a rule of thumb, things that fall under the scientific definition of fruit or grain are high in sugar. (Apples, corn, rice) Nuts are an exception to this rule. Avocado is too, I think. I forget where berries land.
Plants store energy in their roots and tubers. So if was underground, it is high in carbs. (Potatoes, carrots, radish)
Generally, leaves and stems are all fiber and are safe. (Broccoli, celery, cabbage)

Black, blue, and strawberries are pretty low on the GI. I allow myself these regularly.

Note: peanuts are not true nuts and grow underground, so they are not good for keto.

A lot of cravings are your body needing electrolytes. People tend to use less salt when they are cooking healthy. Make sure you are getting enough sodium and potassium.

Yeah if you're salting your food well its plenty, but like I said many people dont when they are cooking healthy at home. And if you're drinking a lot of water youre washing salt out of you.

I always just use table salt in my water, just a pinch though. I usually add it to every other bottle when I'm drinking a lot of water. I really reccomend lemon juice if you are craving fruits, a very small amount of lemon can give you adequate flavor, you get more bang for your calories.

Cucumbers are keto and are cool and refreshing. Certain spices (cinnamon, basil?), mints, and vanilla can add a sweetness to foods or water infusions. Otherwise, berries might be best.

I get that you’re trying to go keto, and maybe you’re just trying to lose weight and that’s why, but leafy green vegetables and everything in the brussel sprouts family (cabbage, broccoli etc) is highly toxic to humans. If you’re trying to just generally improve health I’d look into a Ray Peat diet. If you’re looking to lose weight though you’ll have to look elsewhere.

As a side note Ray Peat says you can’t actually properly absorb protein (chemically) without some sugar. He insists that you eat a piece of fruit with every meal. Huge no-no on a keto diet.

I don't know the Ray Peat diet, but agree here with the vegetables. Plants don't want their leaves, roots, and stems eaten. They need them to survive, so they have defence chemicals. Some argue that the amount of body stress you get from the defence chemicals is actually good for the body, but i dont see it.

Plants want their fruits to be eaten, so that their seeds can pass through you and spread.

I did keto for years, and it's effective for weight loss, but when I reintroduced fruits and transitioned to just meat, fruit, dairy and honey, my body felt way better.

I do think Keto has a place, though, if you are struggling with weight and need help with accountability, Keto can be beneficial. If you eat over your carb limit, you have the consequence of kicking yourself out of ketosis and having to start over, and that can keep people motivated enough to lose the weight. But if you are not after weight loss, or once you have lost the weight, switch to another diet.

Yeah dude! Grab some cheap piss strips, log your food in something like cronometer, or just write down how many carbs you eat each time, and have at er.

We are all here for you, we will help you do it! Don't over think it!
