> you must think in terms of control

yeah, that's why I thought EVs could be better: I can control my own energy supply with solar panels.

I agree that a lot of the "smart" and autonomous driving features will be or could be anti-features. Although there have been EVs for a century and it seems like they could be a practical mode of transportation.

It was suppressed for a while allegedly, like there was that documentary "who killed electric cars?". but yeah definitely good to be concerned now that governments are pushing EVs.

But still the OP example is both ev and gas powered so something different.

so would you like more blacks to move back to one place like africa?

How do you think blacks could be convinced to want to do such a thing?

I mean it's somewhat mainstream of an idea that "europe is for europeans, africa should be for blacks", etc.

idk I see some nationalists seem to want to force people in to a certain place, some people who could care less and want there to be no race and want to erase all race or ethnicity. I am open to a discussion in the middle. I think some people would like to be around more people like them. But also they would like to travel, and live in different places. So idk about there being countries with 100% of a certain people. Maybe there would be different groups that are kind of segregated among themselves. But I don't know how to prevent that from creating conflict.

My top issue would be religion rather than race. Nations should be Christian in my view. So like I'd like to see Christians all move somewhere together. idk where would be a good spot though. U.S. has a majority that is "Christian inspired", I'd describe it as. Might be nice for secular leftists to leave... where should they go?

as a victim of "violent black crime" I can appreciate such criticism of the black community

but then also they're "not all like that" so I think liberating them is ok

The problem is more unConstitutional things like the Civil Rights Act, to me. It is weaponized to force association where it wouldn't exist otherwise necessarily.

more of a cultural problem than of if blacks are slaves or free. some of the black community glorifies the "thug" persona

CONSOOM VEHICLES

So, the ranges on these can be limited on the electrical side, maybe 50 miles, so this can allow people to drive a short distance (like commute to errands or work) on electric, but then if you go further you can rely on gas or if you want to go on a long road trip you can make use of the gas engine. And the "plug in" part allows you to plug in at home (to the grid or solar panels, etc.).

Sounds like the best of both worlds, is there a catch?

What do you think of the debate on gas powered vehicles versus electric or what are good use cases for each?

Just like eating bugs, I see some conservatives are against EVs for various reasons but I'm not sure I agree with them. Bugs are just food, and EVs are just vehicles. For me, I like the idea of having some solar panels and being energy independent. I'm ok with burning gas (not worried about the environment particularly) but it makes you dependent on countries that you may not want to do business with, and hypothetically could run out at some point (so we don't know how long we could rely on gas). EVs run quieter and even if they rely on burning coal at power plants, can't those power plants have good filters on them so there are less emissions than gas exhaust being expelled by cars everywhere?

So don't EVs have distinct benefits, or do you think this is just a ruse for some kind of reason?

I guess my takeaway from reading articles like this over time is that slavery went away in many places without a war being fought, so it wasn't necessary for the North to fight the South to "free the slaves"

The Southern states in the U.S. legally seceded and so the war was in violation of their right to secede

A more optimal solution to the problem to give us the same outcome as we currently experience might have been to engage in negotiations to put an end to slavery by consent in the states, and to either allow the secession or negotiate an end to it. So many lives, so much freedom, and resources lost to ineffective conflict resolution.

so we can make the holiday in to whatever we want

like an ongoing effort to abolish slavery throughout the world

or, as a general pro-freedom holiday.

So I was hoping we could talk about some good messaging about how to do this, directing these holidays towards something productive.

a truly free country is almost an oxymoron as that means "anarchy" (an anarcho-capitalist critique). To me that's generally what abolitionism taken to its logical conclusion means. But if anarchy is rejected, still I'm not sure if people are for all the taxes and regulations that exist today, and so some gains in the direction of freedom might be made, and juneteenth could be an occasion to talk about them.

which is why I assumed that, even if people were going to be on scored, that this site would be more active.

I'll add for conpro:

> "Seven times a day I have given praise to thee, for the judgments of thy justice." Psalm 118:164

Jewish custom was prayer seven times a day? The Divine Office Was 8 times a day: Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sexta, Nona, Vespers, Compline. By removing Prime, it makes it seven. I don't know if this was to be more "ecumenical" and like Jewish practice, but this came to mind.

https://infogalactic.com/info/Prime_(liturgy)

> Prime, or the First Hour, is a fixed time of prayer of the traditional Divine Office (Canonical Hours), said at the first hour of daylight (approximately 7:00 a.m.), between the morning Hour of Lauds and the 9 a.m. Hour of Terce. It is part of the Christian liturgies of Eastern Christianity, but in the Latin Rite it was suppressed by the liturgical reforms following the Second Vatican Council.[1]

> As the chronology of Cassian's works has recently been established fairly accurately, the institution of Prime must be placed towards 382.[4]

So from 382-1960s (?) this was observed but the Vatican 2 church broke from this tradition....

Practical question with regard to possible future food shortages, for people in survival situations like soldiers, but I was also curious if it was a way of identifying an optimal way for people to lose weight

Anyone know what is recommended? And if and how this might differ from people simply aiming to lose weight? (Because there are frequent disagreements about how people ought to lose weight, and still an "obesity pandemic" continuing, but I thought this was an angle I hadn't thought of this problem from)

I don't recall if the film or book of "The Road" had content I would caution against, but they were in a post-apocalyptic situation where they had a low food supply so I remember wondering what their strategy should be in such a scenario (eat a lot on a day, then skip days to eat? Eat every day? etc.)

I guess I saw this as being a different backup with a different culture than scored

scored has basically gone full no-moderation of their communities, kind of, so I thought arete was different in being a little more hands on

globally I thought they were just letting mods do whatever that's legal, while of course specific mods have different rules they enforce on their .wins/communities

well maybe just the few of us can post and make it worthwhile and you could post reminders to check out on other reddit alternatives

idk I was wondering the same

this site is the most responsive of other reddit alternatives, for me

seemed like it started with a decent crowd

I guess there's just more people elsewhere so the network effect keeps some people back?

sometimes I was told to wait for things in the future when it was entirely appropriate for me to do the thing then and I missed opportunities this way, and those same opportunities don't exist now, so I just ended up losing out on instant gratification or delayed gratification (the crop was ripe to pick in the past but wasn't consoomed, and rotted on replanting so no future bigger harvest)

sometimes I didn't need a bigger future gain but the present offering was good enough (I could play a few video games in 16 bit, didn't need a future incredible game in 4k)
None
I know there's a pervasive message that all instant gratification is bad and all delayed gratification is good

But I've experienced delaying gratification and it only led to loss, and have been reflecting on how some instant gratification might fix certain problems I have otherwise "patiently" put up with

So I guess this is a reminder that delayed or instant gratification are to be balanced

There are a few articles on how instant gratification can be used for good, by giving you appropriate little rewards frequently

Something to think about: when can delayed gratification be harmful and instant gratification be good?
