It is an amazing os. Works perfectly with everything except Google Pay, because of Google's own security bullshit with payment processors, but other than that zero complaints. It even gets security patches before the actual official releases do.
Can't you run microG on it or some faux Google play services to run some Google apps without Google?
There are temporary/regularly patched and iffy workarounds, but they are buggy and introduce privacy concerns. The choice is clear: Google Pay introduces issues with maintaining anonymity/security of your god-given privacy, that the demands to make it work correctly simply became too much to ask. Same reason graphene os is prepared to straight-up ditch compatibility with Google Play Services all-together, if certain decisions and timelines are upheld by Google. Basically: ID to access anything or everything breaks. We might just see a new forced boom of free and open sourced software, frankly.

[Graphene](https://grapheneos.org) is an OS, not a phone, although there is a [limited list](https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices) of supported devices. The reason for this is that their build enforces security and privacy options in Android, so at a certain point older phones are not compatible.
I have been using them for years. It is a good balance between the convenience of being on the Android platform and the privacy and security of using software from the open source world. The ideal would be a full phone OS outside of corporate control, similar to GNU/Linux. This is a big project though, especially if you want certain functionality from apps. At any rate, using Graphene is like 100x better than using stock Android from Google or even worse a big third party like Samsung or LG. It is arguably the best Android mod from a security and privacy perspective.
It is not too hard to get installed if you can follow [instructions](https://grapheneos.org/install/), but if you have questions, just ask.

Unless you're james bond and are willing to put that level of effort into your security you're just wasting your time and money on a fad that cannot possibly do you any good.

Fuck the zog and all that, but FYI afik its legal in the states to simply not give them your password. They can force you to give biometrics however, so don't use them.
Make biometrics the option that wipes the phone. If you use your fingerprint it wipes, if you use the PIN it doesn’t.

I might start doing the start of pre-wipe or bringing in a blank decoy phone. Then restore backups later after leaving the airport
Android has a feature, after so many failed PIN attempts, it factory resets the phone.

This will wipe your phone if it hasn't been unlocked in 7 days. It can also be setup to wipe the phone if you plug in a USB data cable (doesn't wipe when using a charger). You can also turn on fake signal/telegram/threema apps that wipe the phone if executed.
If your phone has a 7 day dead-man's switch, how are they going to say "you" destroyed evidence if it happened in their possession 7 days after the fact?
Edit: Just wanted to add that the USB wiping works for sure. I already wiped my phone twice by accident. Once when my wife plugged my phone instead of hers into my car's USB and once when I was reaching off the edge of my bed for my charger cable and accidently plugged my phone into my ipad instead of charger.

I don't know if it would work, or if it would get to the supreme court, but I don't like the idea of being forced to give the police access to my phone one bit. Not under any circumstance.

All the data is technically still there -- so they can't charge him with destroying the unknown and undefined theoretical "evidence" they never had a warrant/ cause to demand in the first place.
there's less legroom, the lines are super long. i got to the airport 3 hours before my flight and i still barely caught the flight because the line to get through security was so long. i always get pulled aside for extra searching. they have shrunk the luggage sizes allowed before you have to pay. and they nickel and dime you on your luggage size/weight. i went on a particularly long trip a few years ago and they charged me an extra $400 bucks for my luggage. then the seats are smaller, less leg room, and they pack the planes, don't turn on the air or circulate it properly--my last couple of flights literally smelled like poop the whole time. i don't fly much anymore either. to reiterate, i used to love flying. i hate it now. it's a miserable experience now.
My wife just left today and it was supposed to be 4 hour flight well her connector just flat out got canceled, she got bumped to tomorrow morning so to fly 6 states away it's 24+ hours.
I blame the increasing nigger staff in every aspect of the airport.
