There are temporary/regularly patched and iffy workarounds, but they are buggy and introduce privacy concerns. The choice is clear: Google Pay introduces issues with maintaining anonymity/security of your god-given privacy, that the demands to make it work correctly simply became too much to ask. Same reason graphene os is prepared to straight-up ditch compatibility with Google Play Services all-together, if certain decisions and timelines are upheld by Google. Basically: ID to access anything or everything breaks. We might just see a new forced boom of free and open sourced software, frankly.

It's not due to security issues. It's due to the OS not being signed by google.
