It is an amazing os. Works perfectly with everything except Google Pay, because of Google's own security bullshit with payment processors, but other than that zero complaints. It even gets security patches before the actual official releases do.

[Graphene](https://grapheneos.org) is an OS, not a phone, although there is a [limited list](https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices) of supported devices. The reason for this is that their build enforces security and privacy options in Android, so at a certain point older phones are not compatible.

I have been using them for years. It is a good balance between the convenience of being on the Android platform and the privacy and security of using software from the open source world. The ideal would be a full phone OS outside of corporate control, similar to GNU/Linux. This is a big project though, especially if you want certain functionality from apps. At any rate, using Graphene is like 100x better than using stock Android from Google or even worse a big third party like Samsung or LG. It is arguably the best Android mod from a security and privacy perspective.

It is not too hard to get installed if you can follow [instructions](https://grapheneos.org/install/), but if you have questions, just ask.

Unless you're james bond and are willing to put that level of effort into your security you're just wasting your time and money on a fad that cannot possibly do you any good.

If you're that concerned just don't use a phone.

You should be prepared for when the entire network, which is run by three companies -- so it wouldn't even be hard, is completely shut down.
