The soviet union was extremely xenophobic, and that was never propagandized out of its people, so its former member states still are. Russia never had a colonial past like the other major European powers, so no stream of migrants from former colonies. Russia never got slapped with guilt for the ussr, so they don't have a complex towards "righting their wrongs" like Germany. Russia was never occupied by western powers like every country in the west until the 90s, and yeltsin's sorry ass met immediate resistance, so they were not forced to do nearly as much. Most of russia's present situation has to do simply with how russia is and also russia's past aligning to make decent circumstances.
