The issue is that Norse Paganism has been dead for centuries, everything known about it comes from Christians, and what they did record seems to indicate that Norse Paganism was anticipating Christianity (especially the Ragnarok account in the Prose Edda, which has almost blatantly Christian themes).
What it seems to me is it was probably edited to fit in with the Christian Endtimes (not by Snorri, but by the one who wrote what he was copying), this was a fairly common thing.
Which is weird because it doesnt much benefit Christians to edit Pagan theology to match Christian theology as it would be of more interest for Christian editors to make it look worse than it was if they were deceptively editing it.
