Auscwitz 1 was built way before the nazi party took over. It served as a camp for laborers.
It was then converted to army barracks. More time passed.
Then it was used to house jews. Soon, it couldn't take the intake, and auscwitz 2, the death camp, was built.
Poison gasses were tested here, as well as a ton of well document unethical tests. Do you know why pilots have extra padding and heat preservation on the back of their necks where the brain connects with the spinal column? The nazis froze jews to death and found keeping that 1 spot warmer led to a higher chance of survival. The tests were for saving down pilots.
