I went to a little get-together this weekend with some guys at church, sportsball and current movie came up. I kinda just sat there not talking for 30 minutes, until asked about my opinion. I pretty much summed it up as I only really like combat sports and power lifting.

this disconnect is very real, I don't think these people seriously would believe that when asked this, but in the moment in day to day lots of people get caught up in thinking it's fine to do this or that thing

Most larger goals in life you don't have much control over, you just have to hope the opportunities come to you.
 
If you don't think any opportunities will come then what else is there to do but hedonistically consume media? Not much point trying to build up wealth when you have nobody to inherit it.
