he still could be "gifted" intellectually even with an average IQ

IQ tests are typically measuring just pattern recognition.

It’s simply one facet of cognition out of dozens.

Its comprehension testing. The ability to infer broader concepts from limited input. Its a critical thing, and most people cant understand why because they dumb. Knowledge tests see what you know. Iq tests see what youre capable of knowing.
