Then conservatism, stripped of all moral content, collapses into libertarianism. I wonder what the purpose of such a response even is, given that they haven't even won on that one single point: in what way have the Republicans substantially downsized government since Trump?
'Conservatives won the Cold War.' Even if we grant you that, what have you won since 1991?
Repealed Roe v. Wade? Hardly a victory for the pro-life crowd: an actual victory would be if Roe v. Wade had never been.
And, of course, no conversation about American politics happens in which somebody doesn't bring up muh gunz. 'We still got our gunz so therefore conservatives are winning'.
And yet look at the mounting restrictions over the past few decades: no high-capacity magazines, no armour-piercing ammunition, no silencers, etc. They aren't even winning there: they're just losing in a piecemeal way, moving procedurally towards total disarmament.
Democrats are stupid and evil; Republicans are just plain stupid. Muh Constitushun and muh gunz are just two of the most common crutches, pressure release valves, coping mechanisms.
