In the Planet of the Apes (I cant remember if it was one of the sequels or the TV series) that takes place in the time after the apes ascended but before the humans devolved into feral animals, there was an attempt to coexist. But the apes were in charge, and one of the worst crimes a human could commit was telling an ape 'no'. This was illustrated during a scene in a school where a human was teaching apes how to read, and a gorilla in frustration began tearing pages out of the book. "NO!" cried the teacher, and he was arrested and brought before a tribunal.

> You are thinking of the 1973 film "Battle for the Planet of the Apes," which depicts an uneasy, segregated society where apes are in charge. The human is "Abe the Teacher," who was responsible for educating young apes. In the opening scene, a frustrated gorilla (General Aldo) rips pages out of a book. When Abe yells "No!", it creates a legal and societal dispute between the humans and apes.
