If you go to another country, and perform an act that is legal there, but is illegal in the US, then when you return to the US, you can be charged for that crime.

Yeah, it happens all the time as u/devotech2 mentions here. America charges Americans doing illegal things abroad all the time that might not be prosecuted where the crime is committed. For example, sex tourism. But then you'd know all about that one, right?
