My New Years resolution is to be less tolerant, so I guess there's a distinction to be made.

Patience and tolerance are both matters of endurance. The difference is whether you *should* endure something or do something about it.

If you're waiting for a baby, that's patience; it's something you have to do to get something Good.

If you're waiting for niggers to stop blaring music outside your home, that's tolerance; you are trying to hide from negative consequences but nothing Good is at the end of said wait.

Back to your question, I'm at the other end of childhood; I'm waiting for my kids to become self-sufficient so I can fully focus on making money again. The Good I'm waiting for is that they won't be weak betas that need caring for their entire lives.

What I'm tolerating is my ex not getting a job (after being handed a ton of government benefits for not having a job, for no particular reason). Sometimes it's a fine line; there isn't much I can do to resolve the issue myself, but there's also no guarantee that any Good will come from not doing something.
