Any protein beyond what your body uses for building and repair is broken down into energy and this puts stress on your kidneys.
It's a valid health concern, but the safety margin for anyone with healthy kidneys is fairly large. Using meat for energy is expensive.

And made even larger by sufficient water consumption. Dilution *is* the solution to pollution in this case... when coupled with the renal system anyway.
