I've been on those trains.
During the Kumba-Melah (largest religious festival in the world), the trains running entirely across the nation are often two days late.
Sometimes, it's quicker to walk between cities than catch the train.
I've met many British, American and Australians tourists who ended up staying longer than expected in India because they ran out of money to afford to fly out again. All of them were fucked-up in various degrees, either physically (getting hit by a car, etc.) or mentally.

They also love to film themselves walking on tracks or as close to a passing train as possible, like it's badass or something. I don't even know if there's any reasonable comparison in a civilized country. Maybe car "enthusiasts" filming themselves driving recklessly, but that's a tiny subset of our population.

Fate worse than death.
My friend was stuck in the Hilton for a week and shit his bed multiple times while sleeping, he said that it looked like a Pollock painting.
