I’m lucky that mine aren’t like this at all, but their friends who are their age have said some pretty fucked up shit to me before when I’ve sat down to pick their brains.
Unlike this guy, they *don't* believe that nothing they do matters. Especially if they have money, they know the opposite is true. But they *actively withhold* what they've been given out of an explicitly stated perceived lack of accountability to the ones who came after them. Even their own progeny. Like the spoiled child, the boomer cries—
> "It's MY money! **I** earned it, and **I** want to spend it on cruises! And cars! And sex! Why should I have to share it with ANYONE? It's MINE! They can get their own!"
The reddit nihilist is still spiritually bankrupt, but in a way that is quieter and almost pitiable. They may not feel a direct *lack* of responsibility to others, but have allowed themselves to become so corroded by the absence of God that they have no vitality left to act on that responsibility.
They may know they could support the world after them, they may feel a pang of *longing* to do so... But they believe it is all doomed. That the world will go to shit in spite of all efforts, that the planet will eventually detonate with the sun, and that all will be reduced to eternal ash without purpose.
So instead, they take the path of least resistance—drowning this unbearable knowledge in a swamp of vice. And with haunted eyes tell you that all of it's pointless anyways.
They thought the good guys won.
As for his boomer apathy, idk, I'd have to talk to him more but he seems to understand the zeitgeist and cultural currents at play since ww2.
