To hide the fact that our money is worth less and less, they make products shittier so that we can still consume products and feel like we have money.
My parents and grandparents were able to fully furnish their homes with solid wood items that still hold up to this day. All while being on a single income.
Now on a double income, we can still afford to furnish our house, but with cheap Ikea and Wayfair shit. I can still get the same level of quality items my parents have, but they are unaffordable, because money has been so devalued.
