And investors WOULD buy these properties and fix them, if only the Democrats running Detroit didn't also demand all the back-taxes on those properties. There's houses for $1k but with $150k+ in taxes and fees, ensuring they stay abandoned. At this point, any house there would need to be knocked down and rebuilt, so you're actually buying the land for more than it's worth before you can even build a new house on it.
And again, that's how Dems (and their ChiCom backers) want it.

They have no understanding of market value. If back taxes are owed by the new purchaser, the de facto price is inflated far above market value. The result is no one lives there or pays property taxes.
Making a new owner pay taxes on something they didn't own sounds like the kind of cruel stupidity Democrats invoke to gain more of their holy tax revenue. Similar to capital gains tax.
>Although you didn't sell this item, if you had, you would have made X dollars, therefore you owe taxes on it.

Republicans do it too in red counties. I know from experience. However, red counties are usually well-ran and more desirable places to live, so there aren't as many extreme cases as Detroit. If the Dems were serious, they'd bulldoze and clear out those lots and sell the land at fair-market value. But that's not what they want. They want the land to rot and make the housing shortage worse.

This kind of reasoning is insane.
