I remember watching tons of good developers leave Amazon back before 2010. They were almost universally leaving because they saw the writing on the wall. Amazon was no longer an engineering company. It was rapidly becoming a services company and you don't need expensive white developers to keep everything running. Chinese and Indian "developers" were more than enough to keep applying band-aids and make it look like Amazon was actually making progress.

Amazon hasn't really innovated anything after 2010. They will never innovate again. They are a giant system designed to extract whatever wealth can be extracted using the technology built by men who were innovative.

It's the sad tale of every tech company.

Of course, what happens when no one understands the system anymore nor can they innovate to keep it running? Eventually things stop working and stuff starts falling apart.

No tech company lasts forever. They all die eventually.

The infrastructure system here in the US is the same way. Keep bringing in foreigners who don't care and who don't understand to work on our networks, our power grid, our sewage and water systems, and one day we'll be wondering why no one has electricity, water and sewage that works anymore.
