# [Don't Talk to the Police — Regent Law Professor James Duane ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE)

There was another video posted on here about some guy who had a warrant. They didn't have a warrant to enter the house, they didn't even know where he was, but his mom opened the door and said, "Sure, come on in." What did the cops tell her? "We just want to talk to him."

Right. The cops were bored and had nothing better to do, so they spent their evening looking for her son to just chat a little? Then she's upset that they didn't say they had a warrant. Then she's crying that they're shooting at him in the house. Then she's upset that SWAT is launching grenades through her window and, no doubt, the management company will ask her to leave.

All she had to do was NOT answer the door!

Ah yes, often cops that are sent to arrest you pretend to be friendly and say that they just want *to talk to you*.

This is for 2 reasons:
1) You're less likely to respond violently
2) Everything you say is going to be used against you, and they want you to talk before they have to tell you that you can remain silent.
