Notice that very first thing they do is lie to his mother that "they just need to have a quick chat" to gain entry to the house. This is why you never consent to anything and never talk to cops. They are 100% allowed to lie. And yet even if you consent under false pretenses your rights are now void.

yeah. they're tricky. they'll use a tone of voice and phrase things to suggest to you what you are doing is stupid, maybe dangerous, and no one else ever says no, etc. ex: they'll raise their voice a bit an say "are you refusing a search of your car?!" with some exasperation and a tiny hit of anger. it's all for show. they're trained to do things like this.
