My stance is this: I have limited resources, and I should maximize the combined wellbeing of all my children. A child with down syndrome would be a massive resource sink, resulting in a worse life for everybody, and he would still be miserable anyway, no matter the effort. Nature can be cruel, but there is no use going against it.

This is the same justification used by anti-natalists. If you aren't willing to make sacrifices for your kids, you shouldn't have them in the first place.
