Yeah, something tells me that Peter the hermit did not just wake up one day and randomly decide to roll up to the (((Rhineland))).

They probably got over charged by shylock.

That being said, the peasants under his command where not all that smart or competent, they basically got destroyed/dispersed shortly after reaching the holy land, before the actual crusaders got there, just like the Dirlewanger brigade in Poland, iirc.

Peter survives though.
