Correct. Nowhere in history have tattoos been a mark of high societal status; except, as you said, among savage tribes like those found in North and South America, Asia and the Pacific Islands. No civilized, high-achieving peoples ever tattooed themselves. I can maybe understand military tattoos, but that's the only exception.

If you look into their record, they all went in as officers and never touched dirt outside of Basic.
