The reason is that they're shit at that stuff. They can barely keep the rooms livable and clean. Fast turnaround and release of funds requires people to be intelligent and well functioning, and hotels get low quality people.

The 1/10th of a cent they make in interest for keeping your money an extra 2 days does not factor into it. It's that hiring people who are not shit to confirm and release those funds in a timely manner costs a lot more, so they don't do it.

Refunding a credit card on the POS system isn't even possible for most associates. Often only one or two people in accounting or sales can reverse sales and such.

An assistant manager or manager can make good money but it's long hours, being on call, etc. Customer service is a bitch because there are plenty of unreasonable people who want full refunds if their sheets hand a wrinkle in them.
