Genesis 2 says nothing either way about polygamy.
"God's original design" is not found in Genesis 2 or anywhere else for that matter.
Regarding two becoming one, simple math says that if 2 can become 1, then 3 can become 1 and so on. You'll note in John 17, Jesus intends to unite with all of his disciples in the same way he is united with God.
You can't deny polygamy by demonstrating monogamy. Monogamy is consistent with polygamy the same way that having 1 child is consistent with having 2 or 10. You'll need to find somewhere in the Bible where it says that God does not want men to have more than one wife. Trying to prove that God doesn't want polygamy because many people had 1 wife is like trying to show that God doesn't want monogamy because many people (like Paul) had no wives.
I'm surprised you didn't quote the "husband of one wife" passage in Timothy. I was hoping you would because that one is more fun to explain in its context.
God's original design is found in what he originally designed. It does not need to be explicitly stated that "This is the way god intends it to be." There is likewise no scripture stating polygamy is how god intended things to be. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot recall any scripture where god is asking one of his servants to marry multiple women. It was tolerated, but not promoted.
I also did not quote timothy and titus as I already did so in the post prior to this one. The context being this is restrictions placed on those taking the lead in the christian congregation. Who are supposed to serve as an example for the rest of the congregation to follow, suggesting it is god's will to be monogamous.
We also have scriptural examples of polygamous marriages where partners were left unloved and abused by their fellow wives. Notably Leah and Rachael, Rachael being favored with Leah being more so tolerated. Or Hannah and Peninnah where Peninnah mocked Hannah. Kings David and Solomon each had their many wives and concubines, do you think any of those wives felt particularly loved and cherished by their husband?
You're already versed in this, we have scriptures that suggest monogamy is proper, we have no scriptures suggesting polygamy is the proper path of adhering to gods standards of conduct.
