It's not the oceans and mountains that have the greatest effect on the earth not being an perfect sphere, it bulges at the equator due to centrifugal force.

Yep, that is a reasonable theory too. I believe in the moon too, as a spherical object with it's own gravity, circulating around earth in 1 month at the time. It explains some weather patterns as well as tidal waves in the ocean. These are all things we can observe with our own eyes.
