It's not even just the CCP though. Republican China was a big contributor to this, and Qing China was such a fucking disaster for the last century that a lot of the Chinese just started viewing themselves as "Manchu vs not manchu". Lots of factors.

Jews most definitely helped out with this though, don't get me wrong.

Although the far southern Chinese were barely even considered as humans at any point until very recently. The 5 races under one union flag only acknowledged the northerly "high" races of china: the Han, the Manchu, the Mongols, the Hui, and the Tibetans. Nobody gave a fuck about the Yao for instance.

Caveat: Most of the southern groups are now majority Han through conquest and assimilation, but their southern roots are still evident from how they act in general.

Haplogroups are almost useless with mainland east asians outside of outliers because of extreme founder effect from haplogroup O because the Han pillaged and fucked everything like the yamnaya in Europe, central, and south asia. Finding an east asian with no han blood is like finding a european that has no indo european blood. My assumption is that the natives probably looked like Cambodians or Burmese because of the piddling out of mongoloid phenotypes from the Han into dravidian ones as you move west from Vietnam. They wouldn't have evolved mongoloid phenotypes on their own in the jungles of southeast Asia, because it's a cold weather adapted phenotype. So we can put to bed the idea that they always looked like that.

Hong Kong was utterly taken over by overwhelming majority Han Chinese. So no. They're of northern descent. Their neighbors to the west, guanxi, are significantly less Han. It's like how white south-easterns in the states are usually northwestern Europeans but southwesterners always seem to be beaners.

The difference is far more pronounced in the southwest of China rather than the southeast, because Han dominion was less pronounced to their southwest. Should've specified that, in hindsight.

Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese are practically alien languages compared to what the Han Chinese spoke in ancient times, but Cantonese is actually considered linguistically closer to ancient Chinese than mandarin is. They both come from the Han and are both descended from the same language, though.

It's like comparing English to Russian and deciding that we are completely different races from each other because we sound way different. That's just how languages evolve. The relationship between ancient chinese, Cantonese, and mandarin is analogous to the relationship between proto indo european, English, and Russian. A fuck load of diversion and change happens within thousands of years.

An actual southern Chinese native language would be hmong, which isn't even in the same language family at all.
