I doubt it. Removing a low denomination, or reintroducing a higher one (like the 500- or 1000-dollar note) makes a powerful statement that can't be taken back. It'll lock into the American mind just how bad inflation has become. Losing a coin we've had (the small cent) since 1856 is big news.

I was thinking the same thing. Eliminating the penny is the first step on the road to a ubiquitous 5 thousand dollar bill.
