They used to produce 100% of the pixels. Now, on one frame, they only produce a small portion of the pixels and upscaling AI fills in rest, then on the next few frames it's 0% from the game and 100% from AI. Repeat.
This can lead to positives and negatives. The positives include the games look good at high resolutions with high frame rates. The downsides include weird artifacts and shimmering as the AI guesses differently and it can lead to a feeling of input lag.

If frame 1 is partially real, frames 2 & 3 are fake while the engine is generating frame 4. Then frame 4 is partially real. Frames 5 & 6 are fake. If I press space to jump on frame 2, my character won't jump until frame 7. Meanwhile, cars driving past my character will look clear for all the frames in between, so it feels like the world is fast but my character is slow.
