Japan, Korea and China do it even worse. Look at them now. By their "work ethic," they should have reached Utopia decades ago. Instead, they're all staring down the barrel of bankruptcy and demographic implosion.
Before the invasions, many European economies where doing just fine with two-hour midday siestas.

Before the Reformation and (((Enlightenment))), people really only worked when they *needed* to, even the peasants had substantial amounts of time off, partly because people had a lot more chores to do, but also because the Church insisted everyone was spiritually healthy and well rested. Work is a good thing, one of the best things for the soul if done in moderation, but we exceeded moderation a long time ago in the west.
Most of the work used to be at home and on your own pasture of land. Now most work is a commute away slaving for some corporation in ZOGland.
You can take some of it back. Homesteading is still popular among the survivalist community. Take small steps to produce more of your own food at home, do more of the work on your own house and equipment, do more of your work remotely from home, and reduce consumption or develop some of your own energy and water on your own land. Baby steps to get off grid, one year at a time. It should be everyone's resolution for 2025 to get a little bit more off grid even if it is just small steps.
