Confucianism kept the Korean people alive for hundreds and hundreds of years.
The North Koreans still take it very seriously. They view their leaders as we'd view our own fathers, and the leaders view them as their own children. The stronger they believe in that relationship, the better things will be, according to their philosophy.
It's no different than Catholics who pray the Rosary ten thousand times. They just have a different prayer and a different Rosary.
When you actually go to understand what these people are thinking, they don't seem so insane anymore.
Thats not unique to them, literally every European civilization before (((The Enlightenment))) had similar beliefs, but without the kings being arrogant enough to claim they were gods (outside of the Roman emperors).
