that shape helps reduce bow wave effect by destructive interference - creates a wave 180 out of phase with the bow wave (slightly ahead of bow wave). bow waves rise up the side of the bow and 'pulls' on the hull, slowing the ship. so this shape is actually faster/lower power.

anyway. yeah it looks like a fat hook nose.
