My local area voted no on the school levy this year. It was set to raise property taxes on home owners again. The teachers at the school my kids go to threw a fit and put on a show/event in the auditorium to shame the parents for voting no. We are not a known as a wealthy area. A bunch of them lost their jobs because there was no funding. Things like after school clubs and they to cut 6th grade sports. Now if you want to be on the basketball team as a sixth grader you have to complete with the 7th graders and I think that's a valuable lesson as it is. Its competitive out here. I would have liked to see more of these worthless "teachers" lose their jobs anyway. *my point is, you can sometimes have a little control over your property taxes* ... a little.

Yeah, but they always cut the educational stuff first, never "muh sportsballs"

I have a parent that worked in the school system. If a school spent anywhere from 40-50% of their budget on education rather than sports they were doing well. If your school or college brags about their sports program, run. Less than 1/3 of the dollars will go to your non sports playing kids.

In every state and municipality, including Washington dc, the highest paid public employees are football coaches

No. That's not true. They cut the after school activities. They didn't cut educational stuff. It probably just differs case to case
