I have ZERO problems with parents doing "hands on" stuff with their kids, but there is a genre of "conservatives" doing their own version of feminist girl power stuff that people wink at. Are there videos of these girls with their mom baking or sewing?
Again, I want to say that teaching your kids practical skills is not the problem (my mom taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was young), the problem is that when these girls grow up, the type of man they want isn't going to want to marry the female version of a man.
Imagine if a girl went on a first date with a guy and he came to the table with "when I was growing up, my mom taught me all the skills I need to be a housewife"? (there's a better than 99% chance there won't be a second date) I think there is a disproportionate interest among among conservatives when it comes to girls doing things that are considered "traditionally masculine".
However, I don't want to come off as a schizoid with my ramblings so I'll just say this is a wholesome video and I think it's great that dad gets to spend time with his daughters doing a brake job.
i think ideally, really, both can do both at acceptable levels... if by some serious misfortune your wife is out alone with a flat tire or something, you really want her to go "ohh, noo, i cannot cook and clean my way out of this one..." or just change it herself because she put her hands on a jack and a tire iron once or twice in her life?
same for men, should a husband and his kids eat only pre-processed crap for a few weeks if his wife falls sick with the flu and can't cook for them?
not saying you're saying anything else, just discussing further.
> "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
Your comment is describing my entire caveat while ignoring my point.
By all means, teach girls how to change tires and teach boys how to cook for their family.
My specific criticism is that girls doing "boy things" is overly glorified by conservatives. Also, with regards to that quote, it's NOT a "human being should" situation because if a man and a woman can do all those things equally well, then there is no point for them to get together. It's the outworking of the delusional fantasy that every child that is born is a blank slate (which is what feminism has used to undermine society).

I never bought the tool to compress the disk break caliper before reinstalling, so I shove the handle of a hammer in between and twist it while prying with a screwdriver. It’s a pain in the ass and not worth the $12 it saved me, but this is how I’ve been doing it for over a decade and it’s one less tool I have to keep track of.

It's not as difficult as many assume. Just need a few of the right tools and know how. Know how is easily gleaned from how-to videos all over the internet.
I recently just fixed my own washing machine after it broke. Rather than contact a repairman or buy a new one, I looked up my specific model and found a common break point. It was a $10 part. Watched some videos, tore down my machine, replaced the part, put it back together, and now it works perfectly. $10 total.

I fixed my washing machine that was given to me, the common problem was the water line to the mixer would come loose and spray the control board. I would still have it, but i used super glue instead of epoxy and ebay didn't have the parts anymore. I gave up and got a set of speed queens, gay name but they're basically the best washing machines available.
My washing machine broke the plastic coupler between the motor and transmission. It was a weak point that often broke when the the part was repeatedly stressed.
Depends entirely on the vehicle. Replaced the breakpads on my mazda 3 and it took me on average an hour each because 1. No good tutorials on youtube, 2. No garage, 3. 100° outside
Depending on what you're working on, a lot of stuff is cross compatible, and tutorial videos have a lot of cross over. Like for break pads, the basic lessons and steps are widely applicable. It just requires the basic tools to do it.
However, some cars are much easier to work on that others. For example, some newer cars put basic maintenance stuff, like oil filters, in ridiculous spots that are almost impossible to reach. I think part of this is done because modern engineers are absolute retards that don't work on anything with their hands, and the other part is that they intentionally design stuff that way to force people to bring their products to (((certified))) workers to "fix" it, because they're the only ones that have the specific tools to do so.
I used to be an ardent defender of capitalism, but it's shit like this that's made the faults in it abundantly apparent. It's a never ending race to the bottom.
Nice. Break jobs are a good start to mechanics. They're pretty simple, but still require good labor. Did a few with my dad as a kid. These young ladies are going to be good girls.
