Here's the thing: leftists are 99% projection. So when they say "you shouldn't be allowed to have an AR-15 because you might use it to kill tons of people" they are basically admitting that's what they want and/or will do.

They are afraid that everyone else is as horrible as they are.

You can also gauge how they feel by asking them not how they're doing financially, but how their neighbors are doing.
