Compassion. For as much as the Germans portrayed jews as parasites, subverters, etc., they didn't want them dead.

Work camps weren't even Plan A - the original plan was to move the jews to Madagascar. Even the mainstream narrative admits "Madagascar" wasn't secret fash code for extermination - they genuinely intended to move the jews there.

You could do a lot worse than being forcibly deported to a tourist destination.

This also means the official timeline is literally:
1. Let's move the jews to Madagascar.

To keep people in camps the camps need to be nice enough to stay in. Not needlessly antagonizing your prisoners is a common and useful strategy to keep your prisoners passive. It is fully in line with the German plan to deport them. Give them bread and games and all that.

Hitler hated Jews, but he wasn't prepared to exterminate them. He just wanted them out of his homeland, as we all do. You may see that as a fault, but Hitler was a more moral person than most of you and obviously humane in his treatment of even those he hated most.

The brothels weren't built by the Nazis, there were just whorish women around.

The facilities that the camps had reflected the dignity and honor of the German people of the time. The Jews were there to be taught a final lesson before being exiled forever, that of the value of work. And with work comes some downtime. Indeed, Arbeit macht frei. They were imprisoned the German way, with the intent that it be one last time.
