Same can be said for all time periods, it's consoomers vs anti-consoomers to put it in a generalization. The average redditors apartment looks like above picture, just with different modern crap they consoom and probably smaller because they can't afford the rent.
As for the bottom pic, simplistic designs doesn't change much, why fix something that isn't broken. A modern version of the bottom pic would probably involve white walls and hardwood floor with floor heating installed if it wasn't there already.
