I'd extend this to the idea of individualism as well.
When we talk about individual rights, we should not speak about rights for their own sake, because there is absolutely no way to justify that in any philosophical framework. Rights exist to allow every child of God to follow the proper path laid out for them, not to do whatever they like. This is why all societies remove the rights of criminals; they have been shown to have strayed from their path.
That's why prisons should be modeled after monasteries, as opposed to public schools.

One of the unspoken purposes of monasteries was for penitent criminals to find a way to pay society back for their crimes.
