I grew up near a heavily utilized rail line and now live in the forest. Trust me on this one, you can get used to any type of noise pollution. Right in the middle of a conversation a train would pass by, just stay silent for a minute then continue were it dropped off soon as the train is gone.
With good insulation you don't hear any outside noise while inside. 👌
That said, the trains were half a mile away but the birds sit right outside the windows singing as soon as there's sunlight, which here above the arctic circle is 24x7. Hence why you get used to it, it's always there. I'd react more to silence when the birds shut up, that's when you know a bad storm is about to begin.
I take crows over trains any day.
