The US patent office doesn't require you actually build your invention and demonstrate it works before they give you a patent. They only care if you have a mostly novel method and can pay the filing fee. That's how (((patent trolls))) are able to run their scam. So even if the patent is real, the device might not be.

Even so, the feds get a lot of ideas from these applications. They have records of the ones that may work and no one has tried to reclaim.
