Professional translator here - no it's not Dutch. The vocab is similar, but the grammar structure is very different. Afrikaans did not just evolve from Dutch but also has strong links to French (French Huguenots) and German. For example, like French (which I cannot speak btw) Afrikaans has the double negative. (I don't like him not, I'm not going to work tomorrow not).

Africa isn't an African word. there are many theories as to its origin but none of them come from Africa
