For the study, led by Nathaniel Harnett, Ph.D., director of the Neurobiology of Affective Traumatic Experiences Laboratory at McLean Hospital, researchers analyzed surveys and MRI brain scans of more than 7,300 White children and nearly 1,800 Black children in the U.S. who were 9 and 10 years old. They found Black children displayed small neurobiological differences reflected as lower gray matter volumes in the amygdala, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex compared with white children.

“Our research provides substantial evidence of the effects structural racism can have on a child’s developing brain, and these small differences may be meaningful for their mental health and wellbeing through adulthood,” said Dr. Harnett, who is also an assistant professor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

Be careful. People will use studies like this as proof of racism, and if you don't look at how the actual written conclusions are justified, you can't call out this nonsense.

"Look, see? Harvard did a scientific study and the experts proved that structural racism is real and causes these problems! It doesn't follow from any of the data they collected, but they wrote it right there in the conclusion, so that's what the study says!"

I've even seen shit like "However, these findings contradict the consensus from other academics, so there must be something wrong with our data and the consensus is still right." Then some redditor will cite that paper that's filled with data disproving their point and just point at the conclusion to say "See? The scientists concluded using science that my narrative is right! It's SCIENCE!"
