I stepped on a rusty nail once. It was to a torn down fence that was covered in leaves. Long enough to go all the way through. I didnt get any shots. Just tied my shoe tighter. I was fine.
Tetanus is rare but preventable. It is kind of overreacted to, given that fewer than a thousand cases happen a year, but you can prevent it. If you got bit by a bat, would you say "Rabies isn't real?".

Getting dirty shit in your wounds is a great way to get infected in a potentially deadly way, but most of those infections can be warded off with two weeks of antibiotics. Don't wait until it spreads up the limb.
You have nothing in particular to worry about from scratches scrapes and other shallow wounds. Clean it, bandage it, keep an eye on it.
Edit: tetanus can spread between people but you'd have to get infected tissue on an open wound. It doesn't even want to live inside mammals, it wants to be outdoors.

I've looked into it a few times because I get cut by rusty shit like once a year and the "pro shot" side essentially just boils down to "you'll literally die if you get cut by rusty metal and don't have the shot."
Tetanus is fucking deadly so it's good to vaccinate for it.

Tetanus is given by a bacteria but the damage is done by the bacteria's toxin that it produces while it's in your blood. That's why it's not contagious.
