Yes it is ran by 👃 but it is self hosted and easily changeable. My homeserver has everything ran by itself and blocks all connections from matrixorg and other stupid ones.

True, but the world of IT forgot about simpler and useful tools and protocols like XMPP. It uses way less resources, it's open source, it's decentralized.

Same story with cloud storage, something like an SSH server with certificate authentication is more than enough for personal file storage.
