Yes, Violator is a great one, as is Songs of Faith and Devotion. Honestly your best bet is to check out their Greatest Hits album, specially the "The Singles 86-98" one.

Ooh nice I have that one. I tried their 2nd remix album just on a whim and it was badass. They seem to make beats that are very popular to remix. I kind of am ambivalent to remix albums typically but theirs was really good.

Spirit is their worst album. Depeche mode are my favorite band though and their lyrics are very profound. Piece of lyric from stripped:

The problems started when they lost Alan Wilder who really was the "musician" of the band. He did a masterful job basically co-producting Music For The Masses, Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion. After that they lost a lot of his magic. Martin's a great songwriter but he needs the great arrangements of Alan.

It would be a G move if Martin Gore reached out and gave an olive branch to Alan Wilder, especially now that Fletch has died.

Martin kind of jewed him on the publishing and songwriting credits.
