And without Stalin, the Soviet-Union would likely have been further left and Trotsky's side would have remained strong.

Nope. Plenty of priests still around by June 1941. And on 27 June 1936, the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union made abortion illegal again.
 
While this is another "unconfirmed rumor" Stalin attended school there before moving to Tiflis to join Tiflis Theological Seminary with the aim of becoming a priest.

Perhaps Russia could have become a legit theocracy.
