Hypothetically if somebody filled their yacht with guns and sailed into international waters, and then somebody from the UK met them there in their own yacht and purchased all those guns…would that be illegal?

On the surface, yes. Yet knowing the cops **They Will Find** something amiss/wrong and place a "Seize order"pending final "ownership" of weapons in question, this process may take a year.

What cops? You’re sailing the ocean.

YOU HAVE a yacht filled with weapons &(likely)ammo and you think 5.0 isn't aware? Don't kid yourself.

How are they going to be aware? You load some boxes into your yacht and you go sailing. Do they have x ray machines in the middle of the Atlantic I don’t know about?

No, but they see you and the other vessel on radar. Then they're waiting for you when you come into port. Will be waiting with questions and munitions.

I had no idea radar could detect an arms deal happening in the middle of the ocean. Wow technology is sure amazing. /s

You'll get busted upon arrival at the port, plenty of checks there which is why you never see illegals arriving by ferry or flight, too much controls in those areas.

What you need is a big lorry filled to the brim with weapons and ammo. Leave the rear doors unlocked. Upon arrival the border guards will be too busy arresting the illegals who tried to get a free ride to bother looking at your cargo.
