Most of you here aren't from the US, or if you are, didn't grow up in the 80s.

The world was VERY different back then. People acted in a completely different way that would be unimaginable to you guys today. Words like "retard" weren't even considered a real insult, because we had far better words and we used them all the time. (Just don't let your mom catch you!)

Anyway, Hulk Hogan wasn't like the Hollywood action heroes. He was a real guy. We all knew that wrestling was "fake". That meant that they were paid actors doing their thing, which involved wrestling, but the matches were all fixed and we didn't care.

Hulk Hogan was just a guy. He lifted weights, he wrestled, he got strong, and one day he went to try out for the WWF. They probably liked him because he had some kind of personal magnetism, and I am sure they worked with him to develop his character. His character was "I'm just a guy that has a normal job but I'm pretty good at fighting and I win a lot."

As time went on, his character morphed from just winning a lot to becoming an American hero. Meaning, a hero that was proud to be American and represented American values. Superman used to be that sort of character back in the 80s. Today he's unrecognizable.

But Hulk Hogan taught us how real men were supposed to act and behave. He taught us what it meant to have rights and how to protect those rights (violence.) He taught us we can stand up to strong people who are evil (because they try to take away our rights). He showed us that when you are down you are not out, and if you just keep trying you can win against all the dirty tricks. Most of all, Hulk had real friends that he could count on, even if he thought he was alone someone like Andre the Giant would show up and rescue him when he was being ganged up on.

Anyway, you guys will probably never know what Hulk Hogan meant to us kids back in the 80s. We all wanted to grow up and be like him. All of our dads were just like him. We all knew that our anger was our superpower, and we had to learn how to control it or it would control us.

You guys missed out on a lot and I don't know any character, except possibly Goku from Dragonball, that taught similar lessons that we learned from Hulk Hogan.

If you don't know the "rest of the story", Hulk got old like everyone else. I think he was accused by someone of messing with some women, so he sued the magazine or website or whatever and won, bankrupting them. He fought until the end. I don't want to die on a bed huffing oxygen. I want to be hated by all the bad guys in the world. That's my goal.
